This collection, including 147 black and white photographs, documents the construction of the new Government House (now the Presidential Palace) in Nicosia. The building was constructed to replace the old Government House which was burnt down during a popular uprising in 1931. The style of the new Government House was based on traditional Cypriot architecture, with special attention given to carved stone and wooden elements, as can be seen in many of the interior photographs. The images that comprise the online collection were reproduced from the original black and white prints. The titles are based on physical inscriptions, where available, and are otherwise generated on the basis of identifying the people, places and events pictured. CVAR holds digital reproduction of the originals and shares copyrights with the owner
